Paul Heinrich von Zech

Paul Heinrich von Zech (born June 12, 1828 in Stuttgart , † January 16, 1893 in Laichingen ) was a German physicist and astronomer .

Life

Paul Heinrich von Zech attended the Protestant seminary in Blaubeuren from 1841 to 1845 and then joined the Protestant monastery in Tübingen , where he devoted himself to natural science in addition to his theological and philosophical studies. After passing the first theological examination in 1849, he entered the Polytechnic School in Stuttgart . From 1850 to 1854 he worked as a tutor for mathematics at the Urach seminar . After a ten-month stay at the Collège de France in Paris , he was repetent in mathematics in autumn 1855 and in physics at the polytechnic school in Stuttgart in spring 1856. After receiving his doctorate in 1856, his activities at the polytechnical school expanded: in 1857 he was assistant teacher for mechanics, meteorology and experimental physics, in 1862 teacher for mechanics and astronomy and in 1865 main teacher for physics, meteorology and astronomy. After repeated strokes in 1890, he retired and died in Laichingen in 1893, where he was taking a cure . His brother was the astronomer Julius Zech (1821–1864).

Zech had been the head of the meteorological central station in Stuttgart since 1884 and a full member of the state statistical office. In 1867/1868, 1873/74, 1874/75, 1875/76 and 1878/79 he was the rector's office of the polytechnic school. On April 10, 1876 , he was appointed a member of the Leopoldina for the physics and meteorology section.
