Paul Hendrik Roux
Paul Hendrik Roux (born September 28, 1862 in Hopetown , Cape Colony , † June 8, 1911 in Beaufort West ) was a South African pastor and general during the Second Boer War .
Life
Paul Hendrik Roux's father was Terwyl Dirk Hendrik Roux, his mother was a native Danish woman with the last name Wiid. He grew up as the eldest son of 15 children in Paarl .
At 17, he wrote for the newspaper De Zuid-Afrikaan of Jan Hendrik Hofmeyr . From 1884 to 1889 he attended the Stellenbosch theology seminar Kweekskool ("Theological Seminary Stellenbosch") in Stellenbosch . From 1889 he was deputy chaplain of the Dutch Reformed Church in Braamfontein , from 1891 to 1897 he was pastor in Vredefort . During this time he married Hester "Hettie" Helena Eksteen, with whom he had three daughters. From 1897 to 1905 he had the parish in Senekal .
In the Second Boer War he was entered on the list and initially acted as field curate on the Natal Front . End of May 1900 appointed him Marthinus Theunis Steyn to Major General . He was in command of troops from Winburg in the battles in Doornberg ( New Bethesda ) and Lindley , then he joined Christiaan de Wet . He chaired the War Council in the Brandwater Basin . After the surrender on July 29, 1902 by Marthinus Prinsloo , he was taken prisoner on Ceylon .
Roux returned to Senekal as a pastor and settled in Beaufort West in 1905 . He died there of African trypanosomiasis , which he acquired in 1910 on a mission to Central Africa .
Honors
The place Paul Roux was founded in 1910, but initially named after Paul Kruger Duplessisville's in -laws .
