tourism
Several historical buildings shape the image of Beaufort West. The Stadshuis , which was built in 1867 and is located in Donkin Street, is particularly worth seeing . The former town hall is now a museum, in which the life of the world-famous heart surgeon Christiaan Barnard and his first heart transplant are presented in around 1,000 exhibits.
Ten kilometers from the city is the 80,000 hectare Karoo National Park . Buffalos, rhinos, mountain zebras and black eagles live there . In addition to hiking or driving in your own car, the nature park can be explored on the "fossil educational trail", as there are some paleontological finds in this region.
Beaufort West is also known for the numerous sheep farms.
