Paul Hersey

Paul Hersey (born January 26, 1931 - December 18, 2012 ) was an American behavioral scientist and entrepreneur. He is best known for his concept of Situational Leadership . Hersey and Ken Blanchard published Management of Organization Behavior .

Life

Hersey taught about leadership, management and sales training and development. In addition to teaching, he has been a consultant to industry, government and military organizations.

Hersey was a Distinguished Professor of Leadership Studies at Nova Southeastern University. He was a past faculty member at Northern Illinois University , California State University , Chico, University of Arkansas, and Ohio University. He was also in the roles of Chairman of the Department of Management and Dean of the School of Business. He has also served as project director for the Industrial Relations Center of the University of Chicago, training director at Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Company , and department head at Sandia Corporation.

Career

Herseys works are Management of Organizational Behavior: Using Human Resources, Organizational Change Through Effective Leadership, and Selling: A Behavioral Science Approach. His most recent books are The Situational Leader, Situational Sales, Service Situational: Customer Care for Practitioner and Situation Analysis Parenting.

Hersey designed the Isolobella lecture series at Alliant International University in San Diego , hosted by SYMLOG. He has degrees from a variety of institutions including Doctorate of Education from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, MBA degrees from the Universities of Arkansas and Chicago, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Seton Hall University.

In the 1960s, Hersey founded the Center for Leadership Studies , which provides training in situational leadership, as well as thematic coaching, parenting and selling.
