Paul Horn (philologist)

Paul Horn (born January 14, 1863 in Halle (Saale) ; died November 11, 1908 in Strasbourg ) was a German Iranist and orientalist .

Life

Paul Horn studied oriental languages ​​at the University of Halle from 1883 to 1885 and received his doctorate there in 1885 under Christian Bartholomae . In 1889 he completed his habilitation at the Kaiser Wilhelms University in Strasbourg , where he received the venia legendi in 1889 and was appointed professor in 1900.

He was one of the few students of August Friedrich Pott (1802-1887). Horn and other leading Iranists of the time contributed to the famous outline of Iranian philology (2 volumes, Strasbourg 1896-1904), which provided an encyclopedic summary of the languages ​​and history of Iran. In addition to Chapter IV in Volume I (Volume II, Dept. IV. Paul Horn: Neupersische Schriftsprache.) He wrote Chapter XVII on the history of Iran after the conquest by the Muslims (Volume II, pp. 551-604 = 2nd volume 2nd section, III. Paul Horn: History of Iran in Islamic times). He was married to Helene Schaupp-Horn.
