Paul J. Kohtes (born July 7, 1945 ) is a German entrepreneur, author, Zen teacher, speaker and foundation chairman.

Kohtes & Klewes Communication and Identity Foundation

In 1988 he founded the consulting company Kohtes & Klewes Kommunikation (today Ketchum ) with Joachim Klewes and in 1998 the Identity Foundation , a non-profit foundation for philosophy, with his wife at the time .

The Identity Foundation researches the self-image as well as philosophical developments in different cultural areas. It stands for a cosmopolitan view of human existence and looks at questions of identity from the perspective of potential development and the reciprocity of individual development and social sustainability. In addition to its own series of salons at the Phil.Cologne philosophy festival, important projects of the foundation include several major studies on the self-image of executives in the context of cultural change and the cultural significance of the philosophical as well as the “Meditation & Science” congress, which has been held every two years since 2010 Provides impulses for the development of consciousness in society and culture.

Meister Eckhart Prize

Between 2001 and 2014, the Identity Foundation awarded the Meister Eckhart Prize for Philosophy seven times, since 2007 together with the University of Cologne, and in 2014 in cooperation with Phil.Cologne. The winners are: Richard Rorty (2001), Claude Lévi-Strauss (2003), Ernst Tugendhat (2005), Amartya Sen (2007), Amitai Etzioni (2009), Michel Serres (2012), Seyla Benhabib (2014).

In 2014 Kohtes developed the meditation app 7Mind together with the students Jonas Leve and Manuel Ronnefeldt in order to make meditation and mindfulness suitable for everyday use. 7Mind is now Germany's most popular meditation app with over 1.5 million downloads.

In 2016 he published the app healing formula , which draws on the wisdom traditions of world cultures with exercises and impulses and is intended to contribute to mental and physical well-being.

Today Paul Kohtes works primarily as a Zen teacher and management consultant and leads Zen seminars for managers. He is also Chairman of the Presidium of the West-Eastern Wisdom Willigis Jäger Foundation .
