Joachim Klewes

Joachim Klewes (* 1954 in Lennestadt ) comes from Kirchhundem in the Sauerland . He is honorary professor at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf and head of the Change Center Foundation think tank and the Change Center Consulting GmbH.

Origin and education

Joachim Klewes grew up in Kirchhundem and attended grammar school in Altenhundem , now Lennestadt. There he graduated from high school in 1972. This was followed by studies in psychology, economics and social sciences for teaching at the University of Siegen . He then did his doctorate in sociology in Siegen and in the USA.

Professional background

After receiving his doctoral scholarship in Siegen and the USA, the social scientist took on various management positions at German and international advertising and PR agencies. In 1988 he founded Kohtes & Klewes Kommunikation with Paul J. Kohtes - today Ketchum Pleon . He was a member of the board of Porter Novelli International , New York. In 1997 he started the consulting company k.brain. He served as Partner, Member of the Board and President Europe of Edelman Public Relations Worldwide. In 1998 he founded the communication research institute com.X. In 2000, together with the journalist and marketing expert Alexander Güttler, the consulting agency güttler + Klewes, now the komm.passion group, was founded. From October 2006 to December 2016, Joachim Klewes held the position as Senior Partner at Ketchum Pleon, Europe's leading communications agency. In 2009, Klewes received the Saber “Outstanding Individual” award from the Holmes Report for outstanding personal achievements in the communications industry. He was the editorial board of the magazine Politik & Kommunikation and works on the curatorship team of the Polisphere Think Tanks for political consulting.

From 2014 to 2016 he headed the scientific advisory board of the international opinion research institute YouGov AG, Cologne, and was a member of the supervisory board of the same company.

Change Center Foundation

At the beginning of 2010, Joachim Klewes founded the Change Center Foundation , a think tank on the subject of "Change". The foundation is headed by Klewes, serves to promote science and research in the field of social change as well as the innovation and transformation of organizations and institutions, is based in Dahmetal / Brandenburg and is managed by Change Center Consulting GmbH (Berlin), whose managing director Klewes is in personal union .

University activity

Joachim Klewes is honorary professor at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, Institute of Social Sciences, Chair of Communication and Media Studies. 2001–2009 he taught as an honorary professor at the Free University of Berlin , Institute for Media and Communication Studies. Joachim Klewes has been a regular lecturer at German universities since the late 1980s.

Research activity

His university research includes topics such as: “What does politics know about social change?” And an empirical study on the social commitment of German employees. The most important studies of his Change Center Foundation include the "German Parliamentary Study" (DEUPAS), the "Changeover Report Energy Turnaround", the world's largest meta-analysis of government change campaigns (MACC), the study "Queer Germany 2015" and the international participation project " EuropeCanDoBetter ”.

Advisory activity

Klewes has been advising ministries, associations, clubs and companies for over 30 years. The focus is on communication advice, evaluation, research management and empirical policy advice.
