Paul Jiang Taoran

Paul Jiang Taoran (* 1926 in Qingyuan ; † November 15, 2010 in Shijiazhuang ) was a Roman Catholic bishop in Shijiazhuang, China.

Life

Jiang Taoran studied theology and philosophy in Beijing . He was ordained a priest in 1953 and served as a priest in Beijing and Yi (Hebei) from 1953 to 1957 . From 1957 to 1967 he was a pastor in a hospital. During the Cultural Revolution from 1966 to 1976 he was interned in a labor camp called “Reform through Labor” . After his release in 1978 he worked again as a hospital chaplain in Shijiazhuang until 1981, and from 1982 as an official for the Shijiazhuang diocese.

Jiang Taoran was ordained bishop of the Shijiazhuang diocese in 1989 without papal appointment, and only in 2008 by Pope Benedict XVI. accepted. He served as bishop to the long-serving incarcerated Bishop of Zhengding , Julius Jia Zhiguo .

Jiang ordained a large number of priests, gave new impulses to the religious communities and was involved in the acquisition of church property from state restitutions. He founded the Anna Association for the lay faithful of the diocese.

Jiang passed away from heart failure. He was buried in the Immaculate Conception Cathedral (North Church) in Shijiazhuang.
