Paul Kaufmann (born January 25, 1890 in Goldap , † April 21, 1982 in Altenberg Monastery ) was a German Protestant theologian .

Life

Kaufmann studied Protestant theology at the Albertus University in Königsberg . After the First World War had participated, he was in on 29 May 1921 castle church in Koenigsberg ordained . From 1923 he was managing director of the East Prussian Provincial Association for Inner Mission . In this role he made sure that the Inner Mission institutions remained intact after 1933. In 1933 he was appointed deputy chairman of the board of directors of the Bethanien Deaconess Mother House in Lötzen and actually took over the management instead of the chairman, Provincial Bishop Fritz Kessel . While neighboring facilities in Angerburg and Carlshof near Rastenburg were hindered in their work by the National Socialists and were finally confiscated, Kaufmann was not only able to secure the existence of Lötzen, but even expand it with the expansion of a children's clinic and the Masurian Feierabendhaus (old people's home).

After the battle for East Prussia and the conquest of Königsberg by the Red Army , Kaufmann stayed in the destroyed city. It was not until 1948 that he received permission to leave the country and came to Berlin , where he worked for the Inner Mission. In 1950 he became pastor of the Evangelical Church of the Union in Beienrode (Königslutter) , the asylum center of the East Prussian Church . After the death of Pastor Friedrich Stachowitz in 1951 he became head of the Königsberg deaconess mother house in Berlin, later in Altenberg near Wetzlar.

After the war, Kaufmann initially remained chairman of the Bethanien deaconess mother house, which moved its headquarters to Hamburg in 1948 and to Quakenbrück in 1950 . In 1955 he was released from the presidency. His successor was Adolf Wischmann .
