Spiritual imprint

The Königsberger Diakonie is spiritually based on the Gospel . The founding name refers in particular to the biblical story of the good Samaritan ( Lk 10,25-37  EU ) and its maxim "Go there and do the same" .

history

The hospital was founded in Königsberg in 1850 with 20 patient beds. Up to the Second World War the number of deaconesses grew and with it the service to the sick and needy. In 1930 the plant had a new hospital building with over 600 beds and employed 1,000 people. As a result of the Russian occupation, the deaconesses were expelled from Königsberg in 1948. After the Second World War, a new start was made in 1948 in Berlin and finally in 1953 at the Altenberg Monastery in Solms-Oberbiel.

The former Premonstratensian Abbey, which burned down the year before, was rebuilt as the mother house. The deaconesses found new fields of activity in the Wetzlar hospital, the city center for the elderly and the city children's home. In 1963, with the building of Haus Königsberg in Robert-Koch-Weg on Frankfurter Strasse in Wetzlar, a dedicated Diakonie Center was established. In addition, the Königsberger Diakonie bought the site of the former city hospital, on which the Berlin house now stands. To date, the plant has developed into the largest care facility in the Lahn-Dill district with around 500 employees and 600 care places in Wetzlar, Braunfels and Hüttenberg through new buildings or the takeover of senior citizens' homes and nursing homes.

Chief

Heads of the deaconess mother house were, among others, Leopold Götz , August Borrmann (1862–1945), Friedrich Stachowitz (1898–1951) and Paul Kaufmann .

The Königsberger Diakonie is a member of the Kaiserswerther Association of German Deaconess Mother Houses and of the Diakonisches Werk of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland and thus part of the free welfare organization.
