Oberbiel is a district of the city of Solms in the Lahn-Dill district in Central Hesse . It is on the right of the Lahn and was the seat of the knights of Biel .

Oberbiel is located in the Lahn-Dill area in Central Hesse on the Lahn , shortly after the mouth of the Dill . The place is on the southeastern edge of the Westerwald . The eastern half of Oberbiel is divided by a narrow, partly wooded ridge. The main street of the village is Wetzlarer Straße, which turns into Altenberger Straße in the direction of Wetzlar. On the western edge of the village of Oberbiel, a new residential area has been moving up the hill since the 1990s . history
The so-called Bieler Mark , on whose territory the Solms districts Oberbiel and Niederbiel lie, was mentioned for the first time in 802 in a property register and in the Lorsch Codex .
In 1803 the Altenberg monastery was subjected to secularization and given to the princes of Solms-Braunfels as compensation for lost possessions in Alsace-Lorraine . From now on, the monastery church was used under princely patronage by the Evangelical parish of Oberbiel.

In the course of administrative reform in Hesse , the previously independent community Albshausen and Oberbiel joined voluntarily merged to Biel Hausen together . On January 1, 1977, the merger with Niederbiel and Solms to form the newly created large community of Solms , which was granted city rights on April 11, 1978, followed by state law .
Knights of Biel
In today's Burgweg, there used to be the Biel Castle , the ancestral seat of the knightly family of Biel, who ruled over the villages of Ober-, Mittel- and Niederbiel before the heiress of the last knight moved to the Altenberg monastery in the 13th century and the knightly family died out . The village of Mittelbiel perished from the plague in the Middle Ages . Since the inhabitants of Niederbiel took in the last inhabitants of Mittelbiel, the land around Mittelbiel was assigned to the village of Niederbiel. Mittelbiel is believed to have been located between the Am Küppel development area in Oberbiel and today's village of Niederbiel.
