Berghausen is a district of the city of Asslar in the Lahn-Dill district in Central Hesse with a little over 1000 inhabitants.
geography
The village is located above the Dill on a foothill of the Westerwald , a good 6.5 km northwest of Wetzlar . In the southwest lies the 303 meter high Hackenberg . In the north, Berghausen borders on Werdorf , which lies in the Dill valley. Berghausen lies between Wetzlar (southwest) and Herborn (northeast).
history
Berghausen lies south of the Dill opposite Werdorf on a hill. The origins of Berghausen go back to the 13th century. A sealed document from 1226 mentions Berghausen - at that time Berchusen - for the first time. However, it is certain that the place is much older and already existed at the time of Charlemagne. Not only the Lorsch monastery but also the Altenburg and Fulda monasteries were wealthy there. Ecclesiastically it belonged to the parish of Dillheim until the independent parish of Werdorf-Berghausen was established in 1686.
Berghausen already had its own school in the 18th century, and it still exists today. It was built using earth building technology, sold in the 18th century and is still privately owned today. The new building in 1861 by district builder Wagenführ was demolished in 1977, while the school from 1952 still exists (Schulstrasse 7). The place developed mainly along the main street where the church is located. The Backhausweg branching off from it is u. a. named after the new bakery from 1935 (Leuner Strasse 2), which replaced a previous building near the church. In addition to the wooden well house in the main street, an unusually large number of cast-iron handle pumps have been preserved as evidence of the village's water supply. Berghausen has owned a new village square since 2015, which differs from the old village square mainly through the stone paving in front of the church and the partially removed church wall.
Territorial reform
As part of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality of Berghausen and other places were incorporated into the municipality of Asslar on December 31, 1971 on a voluntary basis . In November 1978 Asslar was given the right to use the designation city. For Berghausen, as for all districts of the city, a local district with a local advisory board and local councilor was set up.
