Location of Oberndorf in Solms

Oberndorf is a district of Solms in the Lahn-Dill district in Central Hesse and, together with Burgsolms, forms the core town.

Geographical location

Oberndorf is located in a valley basin on the Solmsbach , which has dug itself deep into the last foothills of the Hintertaunus am Lahn valley here between wooded mountain slopes . On the ridge in the southwest, the high Braunfels is only a few hundred meters away from Oberndorf, while the district in the east includes the wooded mountain slopes with the former Ferdinand mine and the ridge line reaching 289 meters up to just before Laufdorf . To the north of Oberndorf the development has merged with Burgsolms and to the south is the Braunfels district of Bonbaden, about four kilometers away .

history

The local history of Oberndorf is closely rooted with the Burgsolmser. Both places claim to be mentioned for the first time in 788 in the Lorsch Codex by a church. Since we are talking about the mother church in Burgsolms, we can probably assume Oberndorf. 1128 the places are named as Solmesso , but differentiated as early as 1300. So the place name Superior Sulmisse , i.e. Obersolms , later Oberndorf , is mentioned.

The iron processing in the village in the Oberndorfer Hütte , where the ore from the surrounding pits was smelted, was important for Oberndorf . It was founded by Count Heinrich Trajektin von Solms-Braunfels in 1666. In 1859 the hut was given up.

In the course of administrative reform in Hesse , the previously independent municipalities Oberndorf and Burgsolms joined voluntarily on 1 July 1971 on the community Solms together . This municipality was merged with the municipalities of Bielhausen and Niederbiel to form the new municipality of Solms on January 1, 1977 by virtue of state law . The large community received city rights on April 11, 1978 .

The L 3283 , coming north of Burgsolms from the federal highway 49 , runs through Oberndorf in the direction of Bonbaden, and the L 3451, coming from Wetzlar , leads to Braunfels.

Oberndorf has been on the Solmsbachtalbahn since 1912 , with a Burgsolms-Oberndorf stop and a Braunfels-Oberndorf train station . When the line was closed in 1985, the railway facilities were largely dismantled. Nevertheless, the embankment and the route can still be seen in the area around the village. Today there is a train station in Albshausen and a stop in Burgsolms (both Lahntalbahn ).
