Paul Kemp (producer)

Paul Kemp (* 20th century) is an American film producer , special effects artist and filmmaker who won an Oscar in 1982 for the short film Violet .

Life

With the action-packed crime film Death of a Snowman , Kemp made his film debut as a special effects artist in 1976.

His first film Violet , which he produced together with Shelley Levinson , who also directed, won an Oscar in the category “Best Short Film” at the 1982 Academy Awards . Didi Conn plays the main role of Violet, who has to live with a disfiguring scar on her face due to an accident in her teenage years, expects help from a preacher, but has to realize that only she can help herself.

For his 1982 film Ipi-Tombi about a young African tribesman, Kemp worked in personal union as director, film editor and producer. In 1984 he worked as an executive producer on the drama The Outcast , with South African actress Sandra Prinsloo in the lead role . In the following years, Kemp mainly worked for television and produced both television films and series. He contributed special effects to the 2003 comedy Buddy: The Christmas Elf by Jon Favreau with Will Ferrell and James Caan , as well as to the 2004 puppet film Team America: World Police by Trey Parker and Matt Stone .
