Paul Kirsten (born December 12, 1853 in Wilsdruff , † December 14, 1942 in Dresden ) was a German writer .

Life

The son of a master bagger first completed the boys' school in Wilsdruff, then the grammar school . He then attended the University of Leipzig . According to his parents' wishes, he should study theology there. However, he followed his own interests and turned to literary and philosophical studies. Since this arbitrary behavior was not tolerated by the family, he found himself on his own, had to give up his studies and turn to simple livelihoods.

First he appeared as an editorial employee of the Leipzig German Poets' Hall , a biweekly magazine whose publisher was Ernst Eckstein and which made a name for itself above all “as a representative organ of Gründerzeit poetry”. Around 1880 Paul Kirsten Eckstein followed to the satirical magazine "Schalk" (sheets for German humor), which was also published in Leipzig. Here he also worked with Edwin Bormann , a Leipzig writer who also stood out as a Saxon dialect poet. This style is an element that Kirsten may have copied here. Now he was able to resume and complete his studies in Leipzig.

Around 1882 he moved to the Dresden villa suburb of Blasewitz . Here he appeared increasingly as a book author. Especially in "E. Piersons Verlag ”in Dresden published several works by Paul Kirsten around 1890. As it had already indicated in his time in Leipzig, he acted in the humorous field. Even as a pensioner he published in the Wilsdruffer Tageblatt in 1926/28 a broad series of memories of his childhood under the title “Wilsdruff about fifty or sixty years ago”. Kirsten died very old in 1942 in Dresden.
