Paul Krainer
Paul Krainer (born February 21, 1869 in Fiume , † September 20, 1935 in Berlin ) was an Austro-German mechanical engineer and professor of marine engineering.
Life
Paul Krainer was born as the son of the chief designer of the Austrian Navy. He studied mechanical engineering at the technical universities of Vienna and Darmstadt. After graduating, he stayed for another year as an assistant until he was hired as a designer at Schichau in Elbing in 1892 . During his work, he played a key role in the introduction of steam turbines in shipbuilding .
In 1906 he was appointed professor of marine engineering at the Technical University of Berlin-Charlottenburg (now the Technical University of Berlin ), where he worked successfully for almost thirty years and, among other things, advocated the establishment of the marine engineering course. Krainer was also one of the co-founders of the Shipbuilding Society .
Among his students was the Austrian engineer and aviation pioneer Herbert Wagner , who later also became his son-in-law.
Honors
In recognition of his exceptional services, the university awarded him the title of " Honorary Senator ".
