Paul Kratz (trade unionist)

Paul Kratz (born March 13, 1921 in Eschweiler ; † June 4, 1994 in Viersen ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( SPD ). From 1972 to 1980 he was a member of the German Bundestag .

Life

Kratz was born into a working class family. After attending primary school, he trained as a steel fitter from 1935 to 1939 and then worked in this profession. From 1941 to 1945 he participated as a soldier in the Navy at the World War II in part. He was most recently taken prisoner by the French, from which he was released in 1946.

Kratz worked as a rolling mill from 1948 to 1950 and was then employed as a tram conductor in Aachen until 1954 . In 1954/55 he continued his education at the Academy of Work . He has been involved in the union since 1955, was managing director at ÖTV from 1957 to 1963 and subsequently became an authorized representative at IG Metall in Viersen.

Kratz joined the SPD in 1952. From 1954 to 1973 he was a member of the city council of Viersen and was elected to the district council of the Kempen-Krefeld district in 1970.

Kratz was a member of the German Bundestag from 1972 to 1980. He was drawn into parliament in both election terms via the state list of the SPD North Rhine-Westphalia . In the Bundestag he was a member of the Committee on Youth, Family and Health from 1972 to December 1974 and from 1976 to 1980 a member of the Committee on Labor and Social Affairs.
