Paul Locatelli

Paul Leo Locatelli SJ (born September 16, 1938 , † July 12, 2010 ) was an American Jesuit , economist , university professor and university president .

Life

Paul Locatelli studied at the former University of Santa Clara and received his PhD in economics from the University of Southern California in 1960 . In 1974 he was appointed Professor of Accounting at SCU and was Dean of the School of Business , from 1978 to 1986 Vice President of SCU. In 1988 he was named President of Santa Clara University in Santa Clara , California . In this role he was instrumental in its development into one of the leading universities in the United States. The Catholic University's endowment increased during his tenure from $ 77 million in 1988 to over $ 700 million in 2008. He was awarded the Spirit of Silicon Valley Lifetime Achievement Award from the Silicon Valley Leadership Group for guiding Santa Clara University and in 2009 with the David Packard Award . In 2008 he retired.

Locatelli entered the Jesuit order in 1962 and was ordained a priest in 1974. He was Secretary for Higher Education of the Worldwide Society of Jesus in Rome. On January 16, 2002, he was awarded the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice by Pope John Paul II .

He died of complications from pancreatic cancer.
