Paul Stephen McKenna (born October 20, 1977 in Chorley , Lancashire ) is an English football player who was under contract with Hull City until 2013 .

Athletic career

Preston North End

Born in Chorley, Paul McKenna quickly moved to his hometown club, Preston North End . There he went through various youth teams from 1992 to 1997 until he signed a contract with the professional team of the English third division club in 1997. McKenna was able to assert himself quickly as a regular player in Preston and managed with his team in the 1999/2000 season promotion to the second highest English division. There Preston North End was able to assert itself as the second highest English league even after the introduction of the Football League Championship . From 2004 to 2006 the Preston North End team was coached by Scottish coach Billy Davies , who brought his captain to his new club Nottingham Forest for the 2009/10 season .

Nottingham Forest

Paul McKenna signed a 3 year contract in Nottingham in July 2009 and moved to Forest for a fee of around £ 750,000. Although McKenna moved to another club for the first time in his professional career, he was also appointed team captain in his new club. In the 2009/10 season McKenna was able to make a name for himself as a regular player and played 37 league games. His only goal of the season was in the game against his former club Preston North End. Forest reached a third place in the table behind Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion at the end of the season and narrowly missed promotion in the first play-off round against the later promoted Blackpool FC . After another narrowly missed promotion in the Football League Championship 2010/11 coach Billy Davies was sacked in Nottingham. After the replacement of his sponsor McKenna asked for his contract termination and moved to league rivals Hull City after approval .

Hull City

On July 1, 2011 Paul McKenna signed a two-year contract with his new club.
