Paul Meister (born January 20, 1926 in Basel ; † December 17, 2018 ) was a Swiss sword fencer and Romanist .

Paul Meister received his doctorate in 1954 from the University of Basel with a thesis on the French author, historian and encyclopedist Charles Duclos .

As a fencer he took part in three Olympic Games : at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki , he won the bronze medal in the team competition. The team also included Mario Valota , Paul Barth , Otto Rüfenacht , Willy Fitting and Oswald Zappelli . In the individual competition he was eliminated with 1: 6 wins as eighth of his group in the quarter-finals. In 1960 he finished the team competition with the Swiss team in Rome in fifth place and in 1964 in Tokyo in seventh place. In 1956 he became Swiss champion in the epee singles.

From 1943 until his death, Meister was a member of the Fechtgesellschaft Basel , of which he was an honorary member.
