Paul Neckermann

Paul Neckermann (born July 17, 1942 ; † July 1, 2006 at Achensee in Austria ) was a German foil and epee fencer .

Life

Paul Neckermann fought for the fencing department of TSV Tauberbischofsheim, founded in 1954 . In 1961 he became German team champion of the juniors in the epee together with Peter Storz, Armin Ködel, Otto Lanig and Jürgen Hehn . From 1967 Neckermann fought for the newly founded fencing club Tauberbischofsheim .

Neckermann participated as an active fencer in the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich and was national trainer for the German Fencing Association from 1977 to 2001 . At the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, he won gold as a national coach with the ladies' foil in the team ranking. Paul Neckermann had already won the German championship with the team as an active epee and foil fencer in 1961.

Until his death on July 1, 2006 at the age of 63 as a result of a motorcycle accident at Lake Achensee in Austria , in which his 58-year-old wife Annemie was also killed, he trained the junior team of the Tauberbischofsheim fencing club. Paul Neckermann leaves behind three daughters, Susi, Daniela and Carolin Neckermann , who, as a successful foil fencer, is a member of the national team.
