Jürgen Hehn

Hans-Jürgen Hehn (born October 1, 1944 in Lauda ) is a former German fencer who belonged to the world class with the sword . He became German champion , world champion and won two silver medals at the Olympic Games.

Life

Jürgen Hehn fought for the fencing department of TSV Tauberbischofsheim, founded in 1954 . In 1965, Hehn graduated from Matthias-Grünewald-Gymnasium in Tauberbischofsheim before studying medicine. From 1967 Hehn fought for the newly founded fencing club Tauberbischofsheim . Worked as a doctor during his career. The doctor of medicine was a medical center in Tauberbischofsheim for over 30 years and has long been a member of the medical commission at the DFB , which he has also headed for years. He is frequently active as a team doctor at world championships and the Olympic Games.

successes

As early as 1961, Hehn was the German team champion of the juniors in the epee together with Paul Neckermann , Peter Storz, Armin Ködel and Otto Lanig.

At the fencing world championship in 1973 he won gold with the epee team, and silver in 1974 and 1975 . At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal he was in the final of the team competition with Alexander Pusch , Reinhold Behr , Volker Fischer and Hanns Jana , but there they were defeated by the Swedish team. In the individual he lost in the epee final against his club mate Pusch from Tauberbischofsheim with 5: 4. When he first participated in the 1972 Olympic Games , he had advanced to the quarter-finals in singles. In 1970 he won gold with the Degen team at the Universiade in Turin. At times he was the leader of the world rankings and won several world cup tournaments. Emil Beck was his trainer during his fencing career .

Jürgen Hehn was the last German fencer to become the German single champion with the sword in 1972 and the foil in 1974 with the increasing specialization in one weapon .

For his sporting success he received the Silver Laurel Leaf in 1976.
