Paul Prudhomme
Paul Prudhomme (born July 13, 1940 in Opelousas , Louisiana , † October 8, 2015 in New Orleans , Louisiana) was an American chef , restaurateur and cookbook author . He made a modernized version of the original Cajun cuisine known beyond the Cajun Country of southern Louisiana.
Prudhomme has cooked on many television shows, wrote a number of cookbooks, and launched its own line of spices called Magic .
Career
Prudhomme grew up as the youngest of 13 siblings on a farm near Opelousas in St. Landry Parish in the US state of Louisiana. Some of his family members already run restaurants or work as cooks in and around Lafayette .
1979 Paul Prudhomme opened with his late wife later K Hinrichs Prudhomme in the French Quarter of New Orleans , the restaurant K-Paul's Louisiana Kitchen , which introduced the preparation "Blackened" especially at Redfish and steak in the early 1980s. In January 1981 he cooked at the inauguration of the American President Ronald Reagan . In 1986 he launched his first cookbook, Chef Paul Prudhomme's Louisiana Kitchen , which was on the New York Times bestseller list for several weeks and contains many of the restaurant's original recipes.
Prudhomme was the first American chef to be awarded the French Mérite agricole . In 1986 the American Culinary Federation voted him Culinarian of the Year .
Since May 2007 Prudhomme had its own cooking show on PBS called Chef Paul Prudhomme's Always Cooking!
