Paul R. Gurian

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Paul Richard Gurian (born October 18, 1946 in New Haven , Connecticut ) is an American film producer and screenwriter .

Life

Since his parents owned a Kosher catering company, Paul Gurian and his sister grew up in the field of gastronomy. So it wasn't surprising that after graduating from Staunton Military Academy in 1964 and dropping out of New York University in 1969 , Gurian opened his own bakery and wine business in rural Vermont . It was there that he met the later director Jack Sholder , who brought him into contact with the film business and with whom he also made the first short films together.

After tourism died down in Vermont due to the ongoing economic crisis in the late 1970s, Gurian's business also went bad, which is why he went bankrupt. He then moved to New York with Sholder, where he made other short films and documentaries with him, some of which were shown at several film festivals. In 1976 he first managed to attract attention with Bernice Bob's Her Hair , so that in 1981 he was able to produce his first feature film with Cutter's Way - No Mercy . His biggest film to date was Peggy Sue Got Married , which was directed by Francis Ford Coppola .
