The Paul Reber GmbH & Co. KG is a chocolate -producer in Bad Reichenhall . The company is the German market leader and, according to its own information, with 500,000 balls per day also the world's largest producer of Mozart balls , which it sells under the brand name Echte Reber Mozart balls .

Reber has been owned by the Botzleiner-Reber family since it was founded in 1865.

history

In 1865 Peter Reber opened the first Reber Confiserie-Konditorei-Cafés in Munich and operated there until 1938. After that it was moved to the city center of Bad Reichenhall, where it is still the headquarters of Paul Reber GmbH & Co. KG today. The company was expanded to include a production facility in the Reichenhall district of Marzoll , a subsidiary with a production facility in Rüdesheim and two branch stores in Salzburg .

Real Reber Mozart balls differ in shape and content from the original recipe of the Fürst confectionery as the first manufacturer of Mozart balls: Double coated with alpine milk chocolate and dark chocolate, they are filled with fine marzipan made from almonds and pistachios as well as a hazelnut nougat core . In addition, according to an agreement, they have a flattening.

Litigation

The brand name Echte Reber-Mozartkugeln was preceded by a legal dispute with the company of descendants of the Salzburg confectioner and first maker of Mozartkugeln Paul Fürst , who are the only ones allowed to sell their Mozartkugeln under the name Original Salzburger Mozartkugeln . At the end of the 1970s, a legal dispute over trademark rights broke out between the Salzburg Mozartkugel manufacturer Mirabell and Reber, which culminated in an attempt by Austrian government officials in 1981 to obtain an agreement that would only entitle Austrian producers to manufacture and export Mozartkugeln worldwide. In the end, officials of the European Community decided on the dispute in Brussels and rejected such an agreement.

Certifications

Reber Confiserien has its products certified by external bodies such as IFS Higher Level and UTZ-Certified for cocoa according to control, sustainability and social criteria. The Reber Group is also a member of Forum Kakao , which also strives for fair trade and sustainability in cocoa production. In addition, a kashrut expert from the Chief Rabbinate Jerusalem regularly checks that numerous Reber products comply with the Jewish dietary laws with regard to production and ingredients .

Reber products have already received multiple DLG Gold awards from the German Agricultural Society .

Record Mozartkugel

A Mozart ball made by Reber with a total mass of 1,000 kg was entered in the Guinness Book of Records in 1988 as the largest in the world .
