Paul Peter Robinson (born December 14, 1978 in Watford ) is a former English football player . The defender ran among others in the Premier League for West Bromwich Albion and the Bolton Wanderers .

Career

Watford FC

Robinson was trained in the youth department of Watford FC before joining the professional squad in 1996. He made his professional football debut on October 29, 1996 against Luton Town at the age of 17. In the following years he received regular assignments in the men's team. In the 1997/98 season he was mostly a supplementary player. Often it was only used when the team was changed from the usual 3-5-2 system to a 4-4-2. At the end of this season, the Football League Second Division could be won and Watford rose to the next higher division. From then on, the team played more often with four defenders and Robinson played his way into the starting line-up. On April 29, 1999, he hit the headlines when he broke his opponent Stewart Talbot's leg by hard boarding in the game against Port Vale . The team made it to the play-offs for promotion to the Premier League at that time . With a 2-0 win in the final game against Bolton Wanderers , the club became first class. But luck only lasted one season and Watford was immediately relegated. Robinson played another season for his home club before he was sold to West Bromwich Albion in October 2003 .

West Bromwich Albion

On October 18, 2003 he made his debut in the dress of the Baggies against Norwich City . His first goal for West Bromwich in April 2005 against Aston Villa earned him the fan-awarded West Bromwich Goal of the Year award. In June 2006, the return to Watford FC should be made fixed, but this failed. Shortly thereafter, Robinson signed a new three-year contract. On October 28, 2006, the defensive player reappeared negatively in the media when he broke Birmingham City captain Damien Johnson's jaw with an elbow check. For the 2007/08 season he was supposed to join Wigan Athletic to replace Leighton Baines , who had been transferred to Everton , but Robinson fell through the sports medical examination. He then secured himself with West Bromwich winning the Football League Championship and the associated promotion to the English House of Lords. Because of his good performance during this period, he was named PFA Championship Team of the Year.

Bolton Wanderers

In the summer of 2009, Robinson moved to the Bolton Wanderers .
