Paul Roussel

Paul Hypolyte Réné Roussel (born October 23, 1867 in Paris , France , † January 1, 1928 there ) was a French sculptor .

Life

Paul Hypolyte Réné Roussel studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris with Pierre-Jules Cavalier , Louis-Ernest Barrias and Jules-Félix Coutan .

With a bas-relief of plaster titled David, vainqueur de Goliath, amene de Triomphe à Saül (now exhibited in the Paris Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts) he won in 1895 the Grand Prix de Rome , giving him a stay until 1899 in the Villa Medici made possible in Rome .

After his return from Italy, Roussel exhibited regularly at the salons of the Société des Artistes Français in Paris. He made numerous sculptures that were bought by the French state and private collectors. At the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900 he won the silver medal.

In July 1920 he was accepted as a knight in the Legion of Honor .
