Paul Rudolf Henning
Paul Rudolf Henning (born August 15, 1886 in Berlin ; † October 11, 1986 there ) was a German sculptor and architect .
Life
Paul Rudolf Henning was a representative of the functional architecture of New Building .
From 1921 to 1923, together with Erich Mendelsohn and Richard Neutra , he rebuilt and expanded the Rudolf Mosse publishing house on Jerusalemer Strasse in Berlin-Kreuzberg . In 1931 he designed an elongated, strict and consistent block of houses on Metastraße in Berlin-Lichtenberg . His ideas were already considered extremely progressive at that time. The buildings were oriented in a north-south direction and thus ensured optimal sun exposure. All apartments had their own bathroom.
Henning has created a large number of modern residential complexes in Berlin. He worked with Walter Gropius and Hans Scharoun on the Siemensstadt housing estate . The settlement he designed in Baumschulenweg and the residential complex in Lichtenberger Metastraße are now under monument protection .
His house in Berlin- Südende, Bahnstrasse 19 (today Buhrowstrasse) was designed by the architect Otto Rudolf Salvisberg in 1923 .
In Kleinmachnow, there is the listed Pungs house, which Henning built in 1932 in the Bauhaus style for Elisabeth Pungs , a resistance fighter during the Nazi era.
As a sculptor, Henning is known for expressionist sculptures and building sculptures. Henning's grave is located in the Steglitz cemetery in Berlin. He designed the tombstone himself.
