Paul Friedrich Karl Scheunemann (born April 18, 1882 in Katowice ; † July 12, 1955 in Hamburg-Othmarschen ) was a German engineer , Reichsbahn official and pioneer of motorway construction in Germany.

Life

Scheunemann was born in 1882 as the son of the railway company secretary August Scheunemann and his wife Henriette, née Nuhn. He studied engineering at the Königlich Technische Hochschule Charlottenburg . In the summer semester of 1902 he joined the Corps Saxonia here . After completing his studies as a Dipl.-Ing. he entered the higher service at the Prussian State Railways . In 1911 he was transferred from Königsberg to the Gdansk Railway Directorate as a government master builder specializing in railway construction . In 1915 he got a regular job in Katowice. In 1919 he was transferred from Katowice to Gliwice and appointed to the management of the railway construction department that had been rebuilt there. In 1922 he, meanwhile a government building officer at the Reichsbahn , was entrusted with the management of the Railway Operations Office 1 in Gleiwitz.

In 1933 Scheunemann was entrusted with the supreme construction management in Altona of the Reichsautobahnen Society as Reichsbahnoberrat . He was responsible for the construction of the Hamburg-Bremen , Hamburg-Lübeck and Hamburg-Hanover motorways . In this position he was promoted to senior construction director. In 1941 he went back to the Reichsbahn, where he was head of the construction department of the Reichsbahndirektion Hamburg in Hamburg-Altona until 1946 .

Awards

Paul Scheunemann was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class in 1916 .
