Paul Schwanke
Paul Schwanke (born December 24, 1881 in Sorau , † December 7, 1965 ) was a German politician ( SPD / SED ). He was a member of the Landtag of the Free State of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and a member of the Mecklenburg State Board of the SED.
Life
After attending elementary school, Schwanke learned the trade of a carpenter and carpenter. In 1899 he joined the SPD. From 1907 he headed the SPD Wismar (until 1933) and was a union official. 1911/12 he worked as chairman of the union cartel. Between 1915 and 1918 he took part in the First World War as a soldier . From January 1921 to December 1930 he was a paid city councilor in Wismar. From 1926 to 1933 he was a member of the SPD parliamentary group in the Mecklenburg-Schwerin state parliament. During the Nazi regime he was under police supervision.
After the war in 1945 he rejoined the SPD. As a member of the SPD local group in Rostock, Schwanke, along with Wilhelm Hörning , Walter Schultz, Alfred Starosson , Paul Traede and Paul Rathke , advocated cooperation with the KPD. In January 1945 he publicly spoke out in favor of the merger of the two workers' parties "in order to prevent future disasters and to cope with the reconstruction in town and country". After the SED was founded, Schwanke became a member of the SED's state executive committee. From 1946 to 1950 he was a city councilor in Rostock .
Honors
According to him, in Rostock development area was Lichtenhagen the Paul Schwanke street named. After the fall of the Wall in 1991, it was named Schleswiger Strasse .
