Paul Strübing

Paul Strübing (born November 2, 1852 in Pyritz (Pomerania) , † March 22, 1915 in Greifswald ) was a German internist and university professor .

Life

He was the son of the medical council Dr. Friedrich Strübing.

After attending grammar school in Pyritz, he studied medicine in Berlin , Halle and Greifswald from 1872 to 1876 . After completing his doctorate, he worked as an assistant to the ophthalmologist Professor Rudolf Schirmer and the internist Professor Friedrich Mosler . After completing his habilitation in 1882, Strübing went on a study trip to Vienna.

In 1887 Paul Strübing opened a polyclinic for throat and nose patients in Greifswald with his own funds . During this time he wrote numerous scientific treatises and books.

In 1900 he became full professor and director of the Medical University Polyclinic Greifswald and the Ear, Nose and Throat Polyclinic in Greifswald.

meaning

Strübing is considered to be the first to describe paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria . He described a 29-year-old patient with anemia and nocturnal excretion of hemoglobin in the urine. Strübing is to be credited with the fact that he recognized the disease as independent and differentiated it from autoimmune hemolytic anemia of the cold type and march hemoglobinuria .
