Paul Wilhelm Schmidt (dermatologist)
Paul Wilhelm Schmidt (born January 13, 1896 in Dülmen , † January 18, 1950 in Kiel ) was a German dermatologist and university professor .
Life
Schmidt took part in the First World War from 1914 to 1918 after graduating from high school . He then completed a medical degree from 1918 to 1923 and was awarded a Dr. med. PhD . He then worked as a research assistant at the University of Freiburg and from 1925 at the University of Münster , where he completed his habilitation in dermatology in 1929 and then worked as a private lecturer . With Alfred Stühmer , already known to him from Freiburg , he returned to the University of Freiburg in 1934, where he worked as a senior physician at the University Dermatology Clinic.
At the time of National Socialism he was a member of the NSDAP , the SA , the NSKK , the NSV , the NS-Ärztebund , the NS-Dozentbund , as well as the NS-Altherrenbund , whose president he was from 1937 to 1945. After the beginning of World War II , he did military service until 1940. He was appointed adjunct professor for dermatology in Freiburg in 1941 and succeeded Josef Vonkennel in 1943 at the University of Kiel to the chair of dermatology. After the war was denazified , he was able to keep his chair as full professor from 1947. Schmidt died unexpectedly as a result of an operation. He was married and had three children.
His main research interests were skin tuberculosis, fungal diseases and allergies.
