Paul Wilpert (philosopher)

Paul August Wilpert (born April 26, 1906 in Munich , † January 1, 1967 in Cologne ) was a German philosopher .

Life

He studied philosophy, education, history, classical philology and German at the University of Munich and received his doctorate in philosophy in 1929. After his habilitation in 1937 he was appointed to the PTH Passau , where he was from November 1, 1937 a representative of the chair for philosophy. On January 1, 1938, he became associate professor and finally full professor on January 1, 1946. From 1945 to 1949 he headed the Passau State Library . In 1954 he was appointed to the University of Cologne , where he succeeded Joseph Karl Koch as director of the Thomas Institute .

Wilpert was born in 1934 with Elisabeth Maria Josepha. Hartmann married. He died in 1967 on New Year's Day at the age of 60 in his apartment in Cologne-Nippes .
