Paul Albert Wormser (born July 11, 1905 in Colmar , † August 17, 1944 in Sainte-Radegonde ) was a French sword fencer .

Life

Paul Wormser took part in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin , where he reached the finals with the team. In this, the French team lost to Italy and Sweden , but prevailed against Germany in the battle for third place . Wormser received the bronze medal with Georges Buchard , Philippe Cattiau , Henri Dulieux , Michel Pécheux and Bernard Schmetz .

When the Second World War broke out, Wormser was working as a dentist in Colmar. He fought in the French armed forces until they were demobilized and then hid near Saint-Geniez-d'Olt . After he had agreed on July 17, 1944 to take care of wounded resistance fighters, he was arrested by the Waffen SS in Lassouts just two days later . When they withdrew from Rodez on August 17, 1944, the Waffen-SS took a total of 30 prisoners with them, including Wormser, whom they shot near Sainte-Radegonde .
