Paul von Merkel

Paul Gustav Ritter von Merkel (born March 30, 1864 in Nuremberg , † April 16, 1949 in Bad Berneck in the Fichtel Mountains ) was a German tax officer. As the Bavarian State Councilor and Ministerialdirektor in the Bavarian Ministry of Finance , he temporarily headed it in March 1919.

Life

Merkel studied first theology and then law from 1882 to 1887 and then embarked on a civil service career. As a government councilor he joined the State Ministry of Finance in December 1904 and was promoted to State Councilor and Ministerial Director in August 1917. Merkel received the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown and was elevated to personal nobility as the "Knight of Merkel" .

From March 17 to 24, 1919, Merkel took over the management of the State Ministry of Finance. His last position was from November 1919 to June 1929 President of the State Tax Office in Nuremberg.

His uncle was the physician Friedrich Merkel (1845-1919).
