The Paula Cave ( English Paula's Cave ) is a cave in the rock badger mountains in the Erongo Mountains in northwestern Namibia . The cave is located on Okapekaha Farm's private farmland near the city of Omaruru . It has been a National Monument of Namibia since March 1st, 1951 .
history
About 5000 years ago, the Paula Cave offered the San a refuge on their nomadic journeys through the border regions of the Namib . It is believed that it is a spiritual place.
Geological background
The cave was formed by washing out the granite. The assumption is that it is Tafoni , as the entrance to the cave is on the northern shadowy side. The cave formation was increased by erosion .
Rock paintings
The rock paintings at Paula Cave are comparable in type to those in the nearby Phillips Cave . They show men as well as numerous animals. However, due to the weather and probably human influence, the quality of the paintings cannot be compared with other paintings and drawings, for example at Twyfelfontein .
