The Paula-Ludwig-Platz-Brunnen are two fountains in Darmstadt .

History and description

The two identical Art Nouveau fountains were carved from red sandstone based on a design by Joseph Maria Olbrich . The round, chalice-like bowl rests on a short column made of red sandstone. This construction is in the middle of a square basin of concrete . The water comes from a short fountain and runs through recesses over the ornamented rim of the fountain bowl. The picture shows the east of the two wells.

Originally the two fountain bowls were in the orangery . In 1908 the fountains were part of the garden exhibition in the orangery.

The Paula-Ludwig-Platz was after the poet Paula Ludwig named. The square is located on the western slope of the Mathildenhöhe and is part of the Erich-Ollenhauer-Promenade .
