Career
Player career
Figueiredo was born in Angola during the Portuguese colonial period as the son of Portuguese settlers and moved to his parents' homeland at the age of three. In the early 1990s, he first played for various Portuguese clubs in the second to fourth division. In 1996 he moved to the then third division CD Santa Clara , where he spent a large part of his career at the age of eight. With the club from the Azores island of São Miguel , he made his first promotion to the top division for the 1999/2000 season and changed several times between the first and second division in the following years. From 2004 to 2009 he played for other Portuguese clubs in the second and third division and in the meantime in Sweden at Östers IF and in Romania at Ceahlăul Piatra Neamț . The last stop of his career was the Angolan first division club CRD Libolo , where he ended his career in 2010.
Figueiredo made his debut for the Angolan national team in 2003 at the age of 30 . In previous years, the Angolan Association had started looking for Portuguese football players who were born in Angola during the colonial era and who had left the country with their parents during the civil war . In the years after his debut, Figueiredo was part of the team and qualified with Angola for the first time for a football World Cup. He took part in the World Cup in Germany , played in all three preliminary round matches and retired with his team after the group stage. Together with goalkeeper João Ricardo , he was one of two white players for the Angolan team . He also took part in the Africa Cup of 2008 , where Angola reached the quarter-finals for the first time. After this tournament he was no longer used.
Coaching career
After the end of his active career Figueiredo worked as a coach. From the end of 2016 he was the head coach of the Angolan first division club Progresso da Lunda Sul for a few months .
