João Ricardo Pereira dos Santos Batalha Ferreira (born January 7, 1970 in Luanda ) is a former Angolan football goalkeeper .

At the young age of four, João Ricardo, like many Angolans of Portuguese descent, came to Portugal to escape the civil war that had been raging in his home country since 1975 .

Career

society

Ricardo began his professional career in Portugal at the then second division Académico Viseu Futebol Club . In 1998 he switched to the first division club SC Salgueiros , where he only played one league game in three years. In 2001 he moved to the second-rate Moreirense FC , with whom he rose as a regular goalkeeper in the Primeira Liga in his first season . After the FC's relegation in 2005, his contract was not renewed.

After he was not under contract with any football club from 2005 to 2007, he briefly returned to Angola in 2007, to the capital city club Atlético Petróleos Luanda . After a brief engagement with the Indonesian club Semarang United in 2011, he ended his career.

National team

He made his debut for the Angolan national football team in 1996. Due to the climatic conditions, he decided against participating in the 1998 Africa Cup in Burkina Faso . His national team career seemed to be ended suddenly. In 2004, however, he returned to the national team under national coach Luís Oliveira .

Despite his absence from a club from 2005 to 2007, he was also a member of the Angolan national team during qualification for the 2006 World Cup in Germany and the 2006 Africa Cup in Egypt . He and his team were able to qualify for the 2006 World Cup in Germany for the first time . This meant the greatest success in the sports history of the African country. Ricardo played all three preliminary round matches for the “ Palancas Negras ” (black antelopes) and only conceded two goals. Nevertheless, his team retired after the preliminary round.

In total, he completed 29 games for his country.
