Paulus Buscher

Paulus Buscher , according to the death certificate actually Paul Karl Daniel Buscher (born August 26, 1928 in Barmen ; † October 10, 2011 in Koblenz ) was a German artist, author and alliance resistance fighter during the Nazi era . He himself always rejected the term edelweiss pirate , which the Gestapo used as a swear word for him and his group , and felt it was a “stigma”.

Life

In February 1943 he was relegated to school on November 1, 1929 because he was a member of the German Youth Union . From 1942 to 1944 he was held in Gestapo and camp detention several times for sabotaging and fighting HJ and Wehrmacht facilities . His father, co-founder of the SS in Wuppertal at the time , handed him over to the military police at gunpoint. After a few days, Buscher deserted and fought on the Allied side towards the end of the war . In 1946 he studied art for two semesters with Otto Pankok and Otto Coester . From 1947 to 1949 he completed internships, then became an editorial assistant for a newspaper. From 1950 to 1956 Buscher studied art for twelve semesters and became a master student of Jupp Ernst and Wilhelm Wagenfeld . From 1956 to 1991 he ran a studio for fine and applied arts, worked as an architect, designer, photographer, painter and graphic artist for West German and foreign clients.

Buscher was married and had four sons.
