Paul Shepherd
Paulus Schäfer (born March 31, 1978 in Gerwen ) is a Dutch guitarist of gypsy jazz .
Live and act
Schäfer grew up in a Sinti community in which there were numerous good guitarists; his mentors were Wasso Grünholz and his nephew Stochelo Rosenberg . In the band Gypsy Kids he took over from Jimmy Rosenberg as lead guitarist. Then he founded his own band, with which he released a debut album in 2002 and at numerous festivals such as the Sziget Festival Budapest, Khamoro Prague, International Gipsy Guitar Festival Gossington, the Django Reinhardt Festival Samois-sur-Seine, Gipsy Festival Anger or Amersfoort Jazz performed. Another album followed in 2006 with the band, with which he also made a co-production with the Tilburg Big Band . In 2012 he released the solo album Twelfth Year .
Schäfer also worked with the Rosenberg Trio, Tim Kliphuis , the Prisor Jazz Band , Andreas Öberg , Biréli Lagrène , Jimmy Rosenberg, Gonzalo Bergara and Jan Kuiper . Together with Olli Soikkeli and Arnoud van den Berg, he released the album Kouvola Junction (2012). As the Hot Club of Holland he performed with the violinist Tim Kliphuis and Simon Planting at the DjangoFest in the North American Mill Valley . With Fapy Lafertin he organized Sinti Jazz Guitar Camps. In 2015 he played with Lollo Meier's quartet at the Django Reinhardt Festival Hildesheim .
