Passio des Saturninus from Toulouse , dating from the 17th century . The other missionaries were: Gatianus of Tours , Trophimus of Arles , Saturninus of Toulouse, Dionysius of Paris , Stremonius of Auvergne and Martial of Limoges , each considered to be the first bishops of their dioceses . Gregory reports to Paul that he was able to carry out his commission and that he died in peace.

In the Middle Ages, in order to strengthen the connection between the local tradition and the apostle , Paul was equated with the Roman proconsul Sergius Paulus , who was converted by the apostle Paul ( Acts 13: 6-13). Even today Bishop Paulus is venerated in Narbonne as Saint Paul-Serge, his basilica in the city bears this name.
