1. Church building (1865–1944)
The Methodist community in Heilbronn had existed since 1851 and used the empty barracks in the Deutschhof . On January 6, 1864, the Methodist Chapel in Karlstrasse 33 was inaugurated; this is "one of the first to be built in Württemberg". The Heilbronn Pauluskirche is a historical conference location:
“… Heilbronn, the conference venue, is historical ground for the conference participants from Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria, as one of the first Protestant alliance conferences took place here in 1905. This conference was founded by the Methodist preacher Robert Möller and is now considered the most important gathering of its kind in southern Germany. ... "
Since then, the Pauluskirche has also been considered a “southern German focus” for the southern German annual conference of the Methodist Church.
2. Church building - Hannes Mayer (1949–1972)
Destroyed in the air raid on December 4, 1944 , the foundation stone was laid for the reconstruction of the Pauluskirche on the old square on October 3, 1948. On February 12, 1949 the topping-out ceremony and a first prayer with Pastor Jeuther were celebrated. The design was carried out by senior building officer Hannes Mayer , the construction management was carried out by architect Kübler. The architecture of the sacred building, which was demolished in 1972, was characterized by simplicity and simple beauty; the material (wood) shaped the interior of the sacred building:
“The overall building, which connects the prayer room and the parish hall, is characterized by its stylish simplicity and clarity in its external lines and interior furnishings. Above all, the church interior itself with the large gray walls and the warm wood tones of the ceiling and the chairs breathes real consecration in its simple beauty. "
3. Church building - Emil + Erich K. Hess (1973–2014)
In June 1972 the church building , which had been rebuilt according to a design by Hannes Mayer, was demolished in favor of a new building; on December 9, 1973 the new Pauluskirche was inaugurated. This time the design and construction management was the responsibility of the independent Heilbronn architects Emil and Erich K. Hess . The stairwell doubles as a church tower, a cross adorns its top, and in the evening concrete-art glass windows that are illuminated from the inside enrich the tower. The concrete art glass work was created by artist L. Klein from Heilbronn. The Stuttgarter Zeitung praised the new building built in 1973 as an "architecturally unusual" church building:
"Heilbronn. An architecturally unusual church built according to plans by Heilbronn architects Hess has been inaugurated by the United Methodist Church in downtown Heilbronn. their house of worship, located between the ' Festhalle Harmonie ' and the shopping tower, will in future specifically serve the Evangelical Alliance Conferences, which in Heilbronn focus on southern Germany. ... "
The Heilbronn congregation is the mother congregation of further congregations founded, up to its 125th anniversary in 1976, over 60 branches were founded from Heilbronn.
In 2014 the Methodist congregation sold the Pauluskirche building to a residential construction company because of high renovation costs and declining church attendance. The last service took place on March 9th, the building was handed over on March 31st, 2014. It was not demolished, but it no longer serves as a church. The organ was sold to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church Koza Church in Yamato (Kanagawa) in Japan and inaugurated there on November 8, 2014 in a concert.
