Pavel Verbíř (born November 13, 1972 in Mělník , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech football player .

Career

Pavel Verbíř began playing football for Sempra Lobkovice, and in his youth he continued to play for Sokol Obříství and Spolana Neratovice. At the age of 14 he moved to the youth department of Sparta Prague , at the age of 18 he went back to Neratovice .

After one season he moved to FK Teplice in the 2nd division. There the striker was soon the top goalscorer of his team, in the promotion season 1995/96 he scored eleven goals in 28 games. Only a few weeks in the first division Verbíř was used on September 4, 1996 for the first time in the Czech national team and came in this season on four more international matches.

In the league Verbíř could not initially prevail as desired, but in the 1998/99 season the knot burst, Verbíř scored 13 goals. In the following season he scored ten goals, in the national team he scored twice in three games. Strong competition from players like Jan Koller , Vratislav Lokvenc and Vladimír Šmicer prevented more stakes for his country . Verbíř played his last international match on August 16, 2000.

In the following years Verbíř was still part of the regular squad at FK Teplice, but his annual number of hits was only single digits. In the first half of the 2006/07 season he often had to let younger players go first, was mostly used in midfield and remained without a goal.

He is playing the 19th season for his club in 2010/11, a Czech record. He is the only player who has only been under contract with one club since the founding of the Czech League in 1993 until today ( status: 2010/11 ). On March 25, 2010 Verbíř played his 350th game in the 1st Czech league. On October 2, 2010 Verbíř played his 500th league game for FK Teplice, of which 366 in the 1st division, 87 in the 2nd division and 47 in the ČFL.
