Life

Pavo Pejić was born as the third child of Yugoslav parents in Hamburg and grew up in the Dulsberg district , where the story of his novel Pussykiller takes place. He graduated from the H20 Higher Commercial School with a technical diploma in 2005. Pejić is a trained social worker .

Pussy killer

In 2009, Pejić's debut novel Pussykiller was published by the Berlin publisher Rogner & Bernhard . The work, which is largely autobiographical, describes the everyday life of a group of boys between school and floating around, sex and violence, drugs and family row. From a first-person perspective , the 15-year-old protagonist Paul tells of the unsuccessful urge of his friends to find their place in life despite fragile family structures and an uncertain future. Pejić himself describes the content of his novel as an attempt by these boys "to come to terms with life" and "not to let the fun of their youth be taken away".

The press described Pussykiller as "realistic", "drastic" and "rough and authentic". Pejić, on the other hand, largely dispenses with adjectives in his novel from which evaluations of his protagonist Paul could result. The tone Pejić gives his main character is simple, clear and direct. This creates a mood that has often been described in reviews as "relentless", "gloomy" and "disturbing". This is partly due to scenes in the book that allow the reader to participate very intensively in what is happening, for example when the boys abuse a mentally handicapped girl or a teacher discriminates against his student in front of the entire class . With the factual descriptions, however, Pejić avoids ever glossing over the violence and pornography in the novel .
