Pavel Ivanovich Argunov

Pawel Iwanowitsch Argunow ( Russian Павел Иванович Аргунов , in German also known as Paul Argunow ; * 1768 in St. Petersburg ; † 1806 ibid) was a Russian architect .

Life

Argunow was the son of the serf painter Ivan Argunow and, like his father, serf of Count Pyotr Sheremetew and, after his death, Count Nikolai Sheremetew . He learned to draw from his father. As an architect he trained with Vasily Baschenow in St. Petersburg, where he also studied the St. Petersburg court architecture.

In 1793, Argunov was the leading architect in the construction of Count Nikolai Sheremetev's Ostankino Palace Theater , which was built in the classicist style of the 18th century. He particularly devoted himself to the visibility of the stage and the design of the auditorium.

Argunov was buried in the St. Petersburg Volkovo Cemetery.
