Pavel Ivanovich Korobov
Pavel Ivanovich Korobov ( Russian Павел Иванович Коробов * August 16 . Jul / 29. August 1902 greg. In Makeyevka , † 17th August 1965 in Moscow ) was a Soviet Metallurg .
Life
Korobow came from a metallurgic family of hereditary nobility . His father Ivan Grigoryevich Korobov (1882–1952) was the chief master of the Makajewka smelting works for over 30 years .
Korobow started as an unskilled worker in the Makayevka smelting works in 1916. Following a locksmith apprenticeship he worked as a lathe operator and gas installer.
Korobov was sent to the Moscow Mining Academy to study in 1922 , which he graduated as an engineer- metallurgist in 1928 . He then went to the Jenakiev smelting works and became a blast furnace master and blast furnace boss. In 1933 he switched to the Petrovsky ironworks in Dnepropetrovsk as blast furnace boss and finally in 1936 to the Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Stalin Combine (MMK). He became chief engineer and in 1937 director of the combine.
In 1939 Korobov became the first deputy minister for steel metallurgy of the USSR . In 1940 he handed over the office of MMK director to GI Nossow . 1955-1965 Korobov was First Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for New Technology at the Council of Ministers of the USSR.
Korobov made a significant contribution to strengthening the steel industry in the USSR. At the MMK he was responsible for many innovations and increased the capacities of the blast furnaces and rolling mills . Ore processing and sintering facilities were built.
Korobov was a two- term MP in the Supreme Soviet of the USSR .
Korobov was buried in Moscow's Novodevichy Cemetery. A street in Magnitogorsk is named after him. He had two younger brothers, Nikolai (1905–1979) and Ilya (1910–1990), who had also become leading metallurgists.
