Peak Hill

Peak Hill is a gold field , area, gold mine, and ghost town in the Murchison Region of Western Australia , Australia .

The place is 885 kilometers northeast of Perth and 120 kilometers north of Meekatharra . The gold mine covers an area of 2,162 hectares that is home to four open pit mines called Main, Jubilee, Fiveways and Harmony.

There are significant deposits of ores in neighboring areas, but these do not contain gold . Adjacent deposits include Horseshoe Field .

Early gold discoveries were made in the area as far back as the 1890s by William John Wilson in 1892. The settlement became a town in 1897 and there were other gold discoveries in the early years. Before 1913, the mine produced 270,000 ounces of gold. and Peak Hill was also referred to in a local newspaper as an outlying gold rush settlement in the 1920s and 1930s.

Walker owned the Peak Hill General Store until 1954 when he came to his daughter (nee Campbell) McCourt Farm, Peppermint Grove Beach, South of Capel. Walker was the last resident of Peak Hill to live there permanently.

In the 1970s, the place developed into a ghost town with few residents, but mining activities began again in the 1980s. and approximately 650,000 ounces of gold were mined. The mining operations declined in the 2000s. Montezuma Mining Company Ltd acquired the mine from Barrick Gold and Rio Tinto in August 2007 for $ 1 million payment and $ 600,000 in environmental bonds. Montezuma received a written commitment from Cunningham Securities in January 2008 that it would fund an additional prospectus from a stockbroker. It took Montezuma $ 3 million to drill four priority areas in the hope of finding gold, an area where 900,000 ounces have been found to date.
