Pearl Master Greengard Prize
The Pearl Meister Greengard Prize is a biomedical science award for women.
The prize was donated by the Nobel Prize winner Paul Greengard and his wife, the sculptor Ursula von Rydingsvard . Greengard contributed in full his portion of the 2000 Nobel Prize money to the Foundation, which is based at Rockefeller University in New York City . The name of the award recalls Greengard's mother, Pearl Master Greengard, who died while giving birth.
The award, which has been awarded since 2004, is intended to honor outstanding achievements by women scientists in biomedical research. The prize money (as of 2014) is 100,000 US dollars . Among the winners are the later Nobel Prize winners Elizabeth Blackburn and Carol W. Greider .
As of 2016 , the award committee includes the Nobel Prize winners Richard Axel , Joseph L. Goldstein , Paul Nurse and Torsten N. Wiesel as well as the previous winners of the Pearl Meister Greengard Prize, Philippa Marrack and Joan Steitz , as well as Cori Bargmann and Titia de Lange .
