The Pedirka Desert ( English Pedirka Desert ) is a desert in Australia . It is the smallest desert in Australia with an area of 1,250 km² and lies between the Simpson Desert and the Great Victoria Desert , without their spatial connection.
location
The desert is about 100 km northwest of Oodnadatta and about 250 km northeast of Coober Pedy in South Australia . The Pedirka Desert is a dune field in the northwest of Oodnadatta, which extends further to the Witjira National Park . It is bounded to the north by Hamilton Creek. North of this creek is a stony plain.
landscape
Red eucalyptus grow on Hamilton Creek , as well as collabah and mulga bushes. Bushes and grass also grow on the dune-free areas. Under the Pedirka Desert lies the much larger geological sedimentary basin , the Pedirka Basin .
Infrastructure
The Pedirka Desert is accessed by the Oodnadatta Track , which connects Dalhousie Springs and Witjira National Park. In the desert there are several sources of drinking water that were drilled for livestock farming.
